M., 32 — Foundations

STARTED

Couldn't deadlift from the floor. Told for a decade that her back 'wouldn't allow it.'

FINISHED

Deadlifted 135 lb x 5 from the floor in week 8. Now runs her own warmup before every session.

  1. Week 01

Assessment. Notes: shoulder mobility limited, anterior pelvic tilt at rest, breath holding under any load. Plan: kettlebell-first, breath-anchored, no barbell yet.

  2. Week 03

Goblet squats up to 35 lb x 8. Cue 'big toe driving the floor' clicks. First time she stops asking me 'is this right?' after every rep.

  3. Week 06

Rack pulls 95 lb x 5. We start lowering the bar one inch at a time. She texts me 'my lower back feels FINE' after Monday session.

  4. Week 08

Deadlift from the floor, 135 lb x 5. Films it. Sends it to the friend who told her she'd never be able to.

  5. Week 12

She runs her own warmup. Knows what each exercise is asking from her body. Stops needing me to call out cues mid-set.

J., 47 — Resilience

STARTED

Hypermobility + 8-year shoulder pain. Had quit two previous trainers because programs felt 'cookie-cutter.'

FINISHED

Pain-free overhead range. Pull-up negatives. Stopped skipping sessions out of fear.

  1. Week 01

Assessment. Stop-short cueing introduced — we never lock anything out. Hand-written program: tempo-focused, no max effort, joint position before load.

  2. Week 04

First pain-free overhead press in 8 years. Tearful in the gym. We keep the load light on purpose for another 4 weeks.

  3. Week 09

Adds pull-up negatives. Five seconds down, controlled. Her shoulder, for the first time, is the thing she trusts most about her training.

  4. Week 12

Sleep improves. She doesn't say it's the training but I do. Recovery is a function of nervous system trust.

  5. Week 16

She's the one suggesting exercises now. Books another 16 weeks before we even finish this one.

A., 28 — Longevity Tune-Up

STARTED

Anxious about turning 30 with 'the body she had.' Hadn't trained on purpose since college.

FINISHED

Runs for her train without her knees complaining. Carries groceries up four flights without thinking. Books her first hike in years.

  1. Week 01

Assessment. Hips and ankles tight from years of desk work. We program loaded carries, step-ups, and slow eccentric squats from day one.

  2. Week 04

First time she takes the stairs at her office on purpose. Her words: 'I don't dread them anymore.'

  3. Week 07

Goblet squats up to 50 lb. We add single-leg work — split squats with a 2-second pause at the bottom. Knees stop being a topic of conversation.

  4. Week 10

Books a weekend hike. Sends a photo from the top. Captions it: 'didn't have to negotiate with my body once.'
